Why does pam look different
Looking back, she's glad they did. I don't think Hollywood is a great place for a 17 or 18 year old kid to be figuring out who they are. Following her college graduation, year-old Jenna Fischer drove her Mazda Hatchback to Los Angeles with visions of stardom in her head.
Things didn't click as quickly as she's hoped, and she was soon broke and depressed — so she became a receptionist. Her first few roles were in a sex ed video for mental health patients and extra work in an ad for Universal Studios's Jurassic Park ride. Fischer described this unstable time in her life as "six years of small successes followed by heaps of rejection" in her book.
She landed better auditions and parts after that, including a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo on Spin City , but still struggled to get her big break. One reason: Alyson Hannigan. She was my biggest competition. I would get to the final audition and I'd go, 'I know I've got this one. She revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she was told she gave a great audition, but she was "just not hot enough. But don't feel too bad for Fischer. She doesn't think she would have been a great fit for the physically demanding role.
And besides, Fischer's girl-next-door looks may have helped her land her biggest role to date. Don't make yourself all pretty, and dare to bore me with your audition. It doesn't hurt that Fischer knew a thing or two about being a secretary after having worked as an administrative assistant for seven years while waiting for her big break. Jenna Fischer told USA Today that, just when things were finally going her way, she fell down a flight of stairs at an Office cast get-together in , fracturing four vertebrae in her back and tearing a ligament in her elbow.
Unable to work out while she recovered from the accident, Fischer, 33 at the time, sulked and gave in to her junk food cravings. She was in amazing shape at the time of the accident because she had just wrapped Walk Hard — she told USA Today that she "trained very hard" for that role. This only juxtaposed how difficult it was to be incapacitated while her body healed.
I was truly in the best shape of my life," Fischer told Shape. Once cleared to resume normal activity, she picked herself back up and focused on her diet cutting fat and exercise hiking with friends.
The result: she returned to her pre-accident size jeans, and two years later showed off her figure on the cover of Shape , bikini and all. Back in , Jenna Fischer married Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn after the two were introduced by his brother, and frequent collaborator, Sean, as per People. She was actually featured in his cult horror comedy Slither, although, as Screen Rant notes, the part wasn't written for her.
Funnily enough, though, by the time of Slither 's release, she was the most famous cast-member thanks to The Office and did much of the publicity for the movie. Fischer revealed during one such appearance that Gunn had given her the role as a "birthday present. Of their marriage, she admitted in an interview with Redbook magazine, "When I was younger, I thought you married the person you fell in love with the most.
I realized there was a whole other set of criteria. You have to ask, Do we have the same goals? Notable about their joint statement was the following line: "The enthusiasm we have expressed for each other's lives, spirits and careers is real — we have been each other's cheerleader and friend during the past six years and continue to be so now and in the future. Just because a relationship doesn't work, doesn't mean the other person is bad," he wrote alongside it, describing his ex as a "great person" and "wonderful friend" among other lovely things.
Speaking to Deadline in , the prolific filmmaker explained their approach as, "Let's get along as well as we possibly can and be kind to each other because we're both a large part of each other's lives. One of the downsides of playing Pam on The Office — and let's be honest, there probably weren't many — was that Jenna Fischer was stuck with pretty much the same hairstyle for much of the series. Sure, there were slight changes, like when she dropped the "girl mullet," as she called it in an interview with TV Guide straight in the front, curly in the back for a hair curlers look.
But that wasn't enough for Fischer. Though that idea was tossed out, she proudly showed off her curly bob in She began wearing cute maternity dresses with colorful sweaters. By this stage in the season, Pam's old hairstyle half up and half down is long gone.
In the seventh season, things were quickly changing at Dunder Mifflin. It was Michael's last season, Pam and Jim were now parents to a baby, and there was a new manager to impress.
Pam wasn't loving her job as a saleswoman and wasn't necessarily good at her job. But things turned around for her when she made up her own position as the office administrator. Once she had a position she liked doing, her life only continued to get better and it showed in her day-to-day.
She was more outspoken, upbeat, and honest with the people in her life. In the eighth season, Pam and Jim were thrown a curveball when they found out they were pregnant with baby number two. The pregnancy made Pam more emotional and insecure and she began to question her relationship. She was training a temp to do her job for her when she was on maternity leave but she began to second-guess herself when she realized how attractive Cathy was. As always though, Jim assured her she had nothing to worry about and the couple made it through.
As Pam did for her first pregnancy, she wore cute dresses and cozy sweaters that looked more like Pam than her matching suits.
In the ninth season, Pam made a full transformation. Her hair was smoothed out, her style was modernized, and she seemed to be in a great place by the time the series finale rolled around.
Although Pam and Jim had a hard ninth season, Pam never looked better. The mother of two finally found her stride. Personality and looks-wise, ninth season Pam wouldn't even recognize first season Pam. Lynn is a nomad who travels the globe on the hunt for her next adventure with her husband. A lover of being outside and finding the best latte in town , Lynn is typically hiking, walking, or jogging when she's not focusing on her love of writing. Though Pam is understandably nervous about joining Michael Scott's independent business venture, she decides to take a leap of faith.
The old Pam wouldn't have sacrificed her secure job for a chance to building something out of nothing, fearful of her co-workers' judgment. Back when Pam was still dating Roy, she valued his opinion over her own. In "Boys and Girls" S2E15 , Jan encourages Pam to complete a graphic design training program offered by the company, but she blows off the idea at the advice of Roy.
Thankfully, she doesn't do what other people require of her forever and eventually makes choices for herself. Pam likes to create art, but it's not until later seasons that she really starts to go after this dream. She starts taking art classes, displays her work at an art show, and even attends the Pratt Institute school in Brooklyn.
While Pam never becomes a famous artist or does much with her creative passions after failing her graphic design courses, at least she gave it a try. Additionally, giving art a shot helped her discover what mattered to her the most Pam is indecisive at the beginning of the series. Sure, she's engaged to Roy, but also, she flirts with Jim. While Pam says she's happy with her life, her actions prove differently. Thankfully, she sorts out her conflicted feelings.
Pam ends up choosing Jim, and while she still experiences times of doubt in later seasons, she always ends up at the right decision. Speaking of Jim, Pam ties the knot with him in Season 6. While she is stuck in a longterm engagement with Roy at first, she eventually sheds this relationship, which leads her to a man who loves her as much as she loves him.
While Pam and Jim's relationship has its hiccups particularly in Season 9 , it's filled with far more bright spots.
