MAPUSA: Goa police on Tuesday arrested the owner of Curlies beach shack, Edwin Nunes , and operator of the Nyex club, Rohan Shetty, in connection with the narcotics trade after a waiter and patron were found in possession of drugs on the establishment premises, respectively.

Curlies restaurant was in the international news after the body of British teenager Scarlet Keeling was found on the Anjuna beach. Keeling was a frequent visitor to the shack. The police crackdown in drug-related cases comes in the wake of the recent death of two Indian youth in Anjuna, allegedly due to drug overdose.

From Sunday, police have booked four cases of drug possession. The amount of narcotics seized in all four cases was, however, small. The charge against Nunes is that he allegedly allowed the waiter to push drugs, police said. On Monday night, during a raid conducted at the Nyex club, Anjuna police arrested Joe Raymond Junior, 21, a native of Ernakulam, Kerala, for illegal possession of Police said their investigations revealed that Shetty, resident of Borivili East, Mumbai, allowed the accused to use his premises to peddle drugs.
