Well, my dear francophiles, that happened to be one of the most useful classes I took in my life since, thanks to Michael Meraw , wonderful baritone and French diction teacher, I started to learn many little tips to trick an English speaking mind into producing French sounds.

I don't really understand either. And if you see two words that are exactly the same, except an accent, so they aren't the same.

Particularly in the North, pesca sounds the same whether you are talking about fishing or fruit. For some reason, this is a contentious subject and it inflames Italian spirits: I see it as a non issue. Learners will just pick up the correct pronunciation of different words as they listen to native speakers. I don't see it as an issue, but I am Italian and I love to learn how to speak properly in my language.
If I were a not native, I would be curious about the correct pronunciation which in Italian, luckily, does exist; otherwise elocution lessons wouldn't. I like to learn how they pronounce things. Speaking of contentious issues, I found this thread in which Italians debate whether a standard pronunciation for open and closed vowels exists, and whether it should be taught to beginners. Many are saying that native speakers have such a range of pronunciations that the Tuscan "norm" should be relaxed.
I think it'll be pretty difficult to hear the difference if you're just comparing them to each other. The important thing is how they fit into the over all sentence, that's where the real difference in pronunciation comes out.
